So stuff
POSTED AT 01:41 AM in General

Let's see now... so my Philosophy paper wasn't as bad as I thought. Still managed to get a B for something I thought I did poorly in, especially when the professor was complaing about how some people who got As last time got Ds this time.

Decided to skip OCF BOD meeting and just game tonight after all that work.

Realized I forgot to turn in my CS book. Need to do it tomorrow.

Will be going to Stanfurd for ITASA tomorrow, so I may be MIA until Sunday.

My new checks finally arrived.

Need to print out my CS homework tomorrow, so I can do it during ITASA. I also need to remember to go to tax workshop tomorrow after class.

Oh, and funny thing I heard while going to class today:
Guy flyering: You can lie when you give it out.
Girl flyering: FREE SEX!

I suppose she could always say "April's Fool" if someone took her on it.

Speaking of which, I wonder how our prank on Sophia went... will find out tomorrow.

Stanfurd ITASA
POSTED AT 03:43 AM in General

(backdated)

So I went to the tax workshop, was sorta useful. Then got a sleeping bag from Jenny, went home to pack, and left at 3:30. Took us almost 2 hours to get there, and by the time we got there, it was almost time for the Night Market. Sophia did not have a place to stay. And later we found out, neither did Joyce nor Fang (although Joyce wasn't staying). This was because they didn't have their info at all! Eventually things worked out. The Night Market was a little disappointing. The girls were checking out the guys throughout the event. For awhile, Joyce got *really* excited and hyper because of one guy. Except, then they found out he was already taken.

Later there was the three other events occurring at the same time. I went to the Halo one. At first, I just played one-on-one with a guy, and whooped him. :D Then we played a team game, where the other team did better kill-wise, but lost to us 0-3 because that was all they did. They didn't really try to get our flag.

Meanwhile, my host had not returned, and neither had Diana's. However, my host's roommate returned so it was ok. Oh yes, so to you Berkeley people still living in the dorms, BE GLAD! Stanfurd rooms are a lot smaller than ours, and their bathrooms also suck. All curtains, and no place to hang clothing. Icky. Their water temperature on the other hand, was nice.

Stanfurd ITASA day 2
POSTED AT 04:12 AM in General

So I got up at 8:30 to go to breakfast at 9:00. Just bagels. My host never came home. But Diana had a sadder tale to tell. She finally went to bed, but people kept going in and out of the room, and they kept asking who the heck she was. And they would pull her sleeping bag to see who she was. Rather rude. Eventually, her host came back at 5AM, then gossiped with her roommate for another hour. So Diana never got any sleep. Poor Diana. And she's still up even now, so... she should crash when she finally does go to sleep.

First workshop, on Taiwanese identity, I nodded off eventually. Then it was small group and lunch. That was ok. Then it was a lecture by some French guy. Also nodded off. Then it was a workshop by Rosie and Lily. That I did not fall asleep in.

Oh, and of this, I wanted to talk about something I'd been planning to write for quite some time. So the thing is, they were talking about how there were Asian American circles at their old schools and how they didn't belong because they dared call themselves Taiwanese-Americans, which alienated them from the predominantly Chinese-Americans. But yeah, so I've been looking at the type of people I've been hanging around over the years.

Back in K-12, I hung around several different circles actually. There was the Taiwanese group that I hung around with. There was the non-in crowd Thai group that I hung around with (vs. the in-crowd group, which included some actual singers and stuff). There was also the one group that I can't really describe. It was the more cultured/international/successful group, or basically, composed of the high acheivers and people who were really up to date with current events and just generally seemed like those who were most likely to succeed. The ethnicity of that group also seemed to be more varied. But yeah, I generally hung around the fringe of most of the group. There was another group that I might call the "library" group that was composed of various members from those groups though, which as the name might suggest, hung around the library a lot. Since that was my favorite spot, it was composed of people I'd meet together during lunch or free period to play cards, chess, or whatever fit our fancy at the time.

At college, during the first year, it was just with whoever was at Freeborn, especially 6th floor people. Sophomore year, I joined Karen's fellowship, so my group of people shifted to Christians and HK people. Junior year, I started to break away from the fellowship as people I knew started to leave too. I started to hang around Vietnamese people a bit. And now finally, in my Senior year, I'm hanging around Taiwanese people a lot, which was one of my big complaints during Freshman year (that I didn't really know any Taiwanese people at all). That was partly because I'd tried to join the TSA club at the time, but after the first event, Daniel said that they'd called me anti-social, despite the fact that I'd actually tried to be social. So because of that, I never went back.

So back to ITASA. Then it was another speaker by Roger Fan of Better Luck Tomorrow fame. He was better than I expected, and reminded me of Jim Carrey occasionally in the way he spoke. Then another small group, where our group size suddenly doubled. Then it was another workshop on Taiwanese language. I sort of nodded off only once, but managed to stay awake for the rest.

Then it was a mad rush to the dorm to change to get ready to the banquet. And for our rush, we (Fang and I) were actually one of the first ones there! People trickled in later. Food was good! Well, then again, this was supposed to be the highlight of the event anyway. We boxed the leftovers. Then the rest of the night, there were huge issues about not having enough rides, and whether or not people were staying for the party, etc. Tempers flaring throughout the night from stress and miscommunications. But anyway, people wanted to stay to party. =/ Again, my group was the first one there. The Stanfurd people just assumed we were all 21, but I didn't want to drink, so no wristband for me. Diana and Sophia went crazy with the drinks. Sophia actually went up to the drink guy and asked him to pour vodka into her cup. The guy kept looking at his friend and laughing. Diana then did the same. So, after awhile the others came, and me and Charlie just sat around or went outside to find a bathroom once (without the long lines). Eventually, we got Joyce to leave. But not before Fang tried to make good on her promise to get the girls to dance around me, which I evaded. I can actually get a bit stubborn at stuff like this. Perhaps I really am antisocial? It's not necessarily that I totally refuse to dance (since I've given in to peer pressure before), but such a thick crowd of people is really a turnoff. I heard later that they did quite a bit of freaking. O_o Oh, the temptation.

Anyway, some pissed off people later (the logistics stuff), we were finally on our way. Except we got lost. And went up a mountain, during which, I kept getting ideas for short horror stories. For example, we went through some really thick fog, and I kept thinking about Stephen King's The Langoliers or just the Twilight Zone in general (go through the fog, arrive in some other dimension). Or when Joyce said we should lock our doors when we went through some small town/gas station, I said "Ghost Town" Anyway, we did see a California Red Fox that kept trying to run away from our car. Fang wanted to take a picture, but eventually it darted off to the other side of the road.

After a quarter of the gas tank, and one hour later, Joyce finally realized we were in Redwood City, awhile later, we were back in Stanfurd, and finally, we were on our way. Then we finally got home perhaps 30 minutes ago. And because of the stupid Daylight Savings Time, it's now 5:15AM. Sucky. Oh yeah, as usual, the journal entries will be shown 1 our early until DST changes back.

Oh, one final note. I spelled it "Stanfurd" on purpose. Also, the people were actually pretty nice. Except for the Vanishing Hosts magic tricks...

Creationists in Berkeley!
POSTED AT 05:22 PM in Philosophy

I just posted this at the UCBerkeley LJ community.

Kent Hovind coming to town
Yep, one of the greatest comedians of all times is coming to Berkeley on Friday, 7PM at 2050 VLSB. He's certainly qualified! He even has a PhD from a degree mill (click here for a picture of Patriot University). You will probably get to hear him tell some classic jokes such as "Evolution is a religion" or "Creationism is really science" or "The universe is only 10,000 years old" or perhaps even, "Evolution is just a theory" (I trust most of you understand the absurdities of these statements).

In related news, I hear that there's some Berkeley Creationist who's started a Creationist show on Comcast. Shouldn't it be shown on Comedy Central or something?

Just trying to stir up some controversy from the religious right, and also get the guy discredited before he even comes here.

Social withdrawal
POSTED AT 01:54 AM in General

As usual, after being with a lot of people for awhile, I suffer from minor withdrawal symptoms. Basically feel a bit more lonely now that everyone's gone back to the daily routines. I've always liked the field trip type events from back during middle school. Especially sleeping in hotel rooms with people I know, then staying up till late night playing games or just chatting. On the other hand, we didn't really do that at ITASA. We were all separated and sleeping with strangers, for better or worse, and we didn't really get a lot of free time to ourselves. And of course, the accomodations were certainly not hotel class (well, passable in that we have room and baord).

Anyway, got my bag back from Fang today. Did some CS homework. Finished off the lefover chicken. And did my taxes, which sucked.

Oh, some more stuff from ITASA now that I got my notes back (was in my bag, that was in Bonar's car, but I came back in Joyce's car, so I didn't get it till today from Fang, who went to Bonar's place to pick it up).

I think I just realized that the "Chinese Parents Association" (or something like that?) back at ISB was actually mainly made up of Taiwanese people. I just realized that I don't really remember who was actually from mainland China back in ISB. All the people I know were from Taiwan... interesting. Or maybe I just never hung around with that group.

Just did a quick check on my year book, and noticed something interesting. Of my year, there was only *one* Chinese, and two Chinese-American (one of which, I always thought was Taiwanese, so maybe it's a case of Taiwanese-American not being a common label back then? Or maybe he really is Chinese-American). Of the Taiwanese, I count 15 of them, including me and my cousin (my cousin also has a Thai passport). I also just noticed that one of the Taiwanese girls there was Taiwanese. I'd always thought she was Thai for some reason... maybe 'cause she hung around mainly with the non-in Thai circle (also the library circle, see previous entries for more details on the circles I was in), although her last name should've made it obvious... so yeah, this really explains why I'd always remembered the "Chinese Parents Association" as being mainly Taiwanese.

POSTED AT 11:06 PM in General

Could not stay awake in any of my classes today. Dunno why.

So... looks like so much stuff is going on for BST recently. Need to help sub stuff this Sunday.

Meanwhile, finally back to the Tuesday dinners, this time Diana and David came too. Food was the usual quality. But their cake was really good today. I kept telling the jokes I got from http://www.kland.com.tw/event/hook_talkshow. Afterwards, Diana went home, and the rest of us went to Sophia's place, where we chatted till 11PM, mainly about ITASA.

Urk, tomorrow, must finally get that god forsaken photo for OPT (the really strict requirements for it keeps making me wanting to put it off), and also print, sign, and mail off my tax forms. Bah.

Burden lifted, Orkut, stuff about Taiwan
POSTED AT 01:27 AM in General

Finally mailed off all that stuff! That's a load off my shoulders. Unless I get it returned saying there's some problem. Then.... -_-

Got Blue Gate Crossing, to show for BST. The subtitles though... icky. Fixed it up a little bit. Numerous misspellings and grammar errors, and there's still more to be done, if they choose to show this for the BST Film Night.

Created several more Orkut communities. Just check my communities to see what I made, too lazy to list here.

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu is funny!

Oh, forgot to include pirate card savings from the dinner with Karen a couple days ago. She paid for my boba for being late (I did try to pay for it, but she wouldn't let me). So savings so far are $5.55/$10.59 (mine/total)

Blah blah day.
POSTED AT 11:15 PM in General

Karaoke with Taiwanese Decal.... well, basically sucked. The two guests actually ended up singing more than the actual people from class. -_- I only sang like two songs in the 2 hours, and that's with half the class only singing like one song. The rest were mainly the two Alice and the two guests, who sang like 5+ songs each. Also found out that quite a few people in class really dislike the instructor Alice. In any case, I shouldn't have gone today (didn't need to), and I much prefer going to karaoke with BST peeps.

BOD meeting was ok, went to Epicurean, the new restaurant, to eat afterwards. Food was.... ok I suppose (yeah, everything is just blah and ok).

I think I should sleep soon. Tomorrow, I'm going to do many many hours of research and catch up.

Kent Hovind - Creationist Comedy Show
POSTED AT 01:08 AM in Philosophy

So, first we had dinner with a bunch of BST/TSA/random other peeps at 5:45. Most ate at Epicurean, but I just ate there last night (a recurrent theme for the night), so I got the Crispy chicken and Yogurt Ice Crush (not actual name) from Old Teahouse. Spiciness and sourness. Charlie got some sandwiches from the Old Teahouse too (O_o), and Catherine shared my chicken.

I managed to convince only Catherine to go to watch the Kent Hovind comedy show. Everyone else went straight to the K-con. She wanted to go at intermission so she could get in for free.

And it was indeed a comedy show. His theme was taking "lies" out of textbooks. Kent Hovind made his usual straw men and other logical fallacies, and in general, acted like a hypocrite during the Q&A section. His two most common fallacies are that evolutionists believe we come from a rock (a misrepresentation of abiogenesis, which has nothing to do with evolution), and that evolution is a religion (and he never defines exactly what is a "religion"). It is true, he is a "good" debater, but mainly through his usage of the unfair environment (he would go through his laptop for powerpoint slides when people addressed him on certain points). He would also keep interrupting people and not let them finish their questions or sentences, which is something I also noticed at Phillip Johnson's lecture. Further more, he kept making ad hominem attacks on the people who tried to debate him. These were all stuff that he asked people not to do to him. Gotta love hypocrites.

There were quite a lot of anti-creationists there, including the famous Skip Evans. Unfortunately, most of the debaters, with the exception of perhaps 1-3 did more harm than good I think. Skip Evans, an Integrative Biology professor at UCB, and a UCB student. The rest were.... bleah. But I still have to give it to the rest of them too for having the courage to get up there. I kept thinking I should go up, but I was thinking that the people there would make good arguments... but I guess not. =/ Then again, I dunno how I would fare under the hostile environment anyway, so... I can't really criticize. I am still a better text debater than an oral debater. =/

The last thing to say is that... I felt great sadness and pity for those who were cheering and clapping for Kent Hovind. Perhaps, if I could corner them one by one, I could explain why Kent Hovind is wrong... Oh, and at least Catherine agreed that the whole thing was actually funny in a way. But it was also really frustrating, as the people on Christianforums.com warned me it would be. >_<

Oh, really the last thing now. Advice to people who seek to debate Kent Hovind in the future. The way to beat him at his own game (using his laptop) if he comes again is to bring your own laptop, either with all your arguments prepared, and/or with wireless access so you can pull up the data immediately through airbears.

TSA K-con, Blue Gate Crossing
POSTED AT 01:20 AM in General

Ok, so just a little bit before the show was over, we got a call saying that the TSA K-con was in intermission, so we snuck in during that time. Noticed sometime into it that the girl in front of me was Cindy (my Taiwanese Language Decal instructor). Alice Kuo (student from Decal) had made it to the second round. I thought she sang the best, but she only got 3rd place. First place went to some non-Cal student.

Afterwards, the BST peeps actually wanted to go to Karaoke! But I'd just gone yesterday too! So I declined. Was hoping to go Safeway shopping with Catherine and her roommate, but her roommate went to bed. So I convinced her to watch Blue Gate Crossing to decide if that's feasible for Film Night. She liked it I think. Walked her home afterwards, and typing up all this right now. First time I split my day into so many entries I think.

Oh, before I forget. I also went to do URAP today. Two mice. Must do laundry tomorrow. People should still be at karaoke right now.

So all in all, I didn't even finish my Linguistics homework this weekend. *sigh*

Anyway, 9:30 Easter mass today. Lots of people... and they did things a bit differently for the kids. Didn't notice Peter and Michelle till after I'd found my seat on the 2nd floor.

Then, 1PM was the BST meeting, but we didn't really start till 2PM, during which, we decided not to do the subbing stuff. After that, Sophia, Fang, and Joyce came to my place to watch Blue Gate Crossing, and Diana arrived at the end of the movie. Then they went to get the movie from Blockbuster. And I continued to waste time while trying to be productive.

POSTED AT 09:01 PM in General

I had the feeling it would happen and it did. Making two entries on the same day with the same person mentioned many times tends to start the rumor mill going, if only briefly. Fang claims that she'd only thought about it right after the BST event (showed Blue Gate Crossing, people seemed to like it. And it's the 5th time I've seen that film. Eep!), but I thought I'd heard whispering earlier...

Cal Day, Unicorn review
POSTED AT 09:46 PM in General

So, got up nice and early to set up for Cal Day and I-House's Spring Festival. Set-up at I-House was easy, since for my shift, we didn't have to do anything besides setting up. Oh, saw Pamela from high school. She was tabling for the Thai club, which I've never seen around at all. Cal Day was rather blah I think. Too sunny. Some people did come by the table though.

Went back, gamed a bit, then went to dinner at Unicorn with all the people who were going to the dance. Don't get their Chao Zhou Duck. For $12, the portion is really small. As for the actual place, I can't shake off the feeling that it's only pseudo-high class. Maybe it's the extremely muscular waiter who just seems out of place. Maybe because the restaurant's previous incarnation was a Chinese fast food place. In any case, overpriced. Oh, and I guess I broke my non-drinking streak. Not that it really counts. Just a bit of champagne in a small glass with a scoop of sherbert. Someone said something about it supposed to be for cleaning the palate. Oh, being around so many people I don't know tends to put me into observer mode. (Didn't know 6/10 of the people there).

I think I'll sleep early tonight, since I slept late last night.

Free Ice Cream, Ping Pong Club
POSTED AT 01:03 AM in General

Hmm, I think I can only reduce the time I go to bed by 2 hours/day. Attempts to do it earlier tend to fail (either lose 30 min trying to sleep in bed, or lose several hours in front of computer).

Anyway, Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day on Tuesday April 27! And Baskin Robbins Free Scoop Day the day after.

Eh, Taiwanese midterm on Tuesday. Sucky.

Cold, rainy day today. Keeping my door closed most of the day helped keep some heat in.

Started watching the Ping Pong Club, since my regular anime aren't out yet. I remember my cousins back in Taiwan told me to read the manga since it was really funny. It's of the perverted/disgusting humor genre, similar to another manga I did read in Taiwan. Although this one is a lot worse in the disgusting area. Jokes involving nudity, cross-dressing, penises, feces, BDSM. Yeah... not for the faint-hearted, or those not familiar with this particular sort of culture. Probably enjoyable for those who like Ebichu, Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, and Bobobo~bo Bo~bobo.

Armenian Rally, Ticket to Ride, Jobs
POSTED AT 12:56 AM in Gaming

So, joined the Armenian Hand-in-hand rally today with Fang and Catherine. They got quite a big chain going.

Wanted to buy Ticket to Ride, so I did the chess puzzle at Games of Berkeley. A lot easier than the last one (which no one managed to solve). Took me less than 30 min I think (dunno the actual amount of time). I like "Mate in 3" puzzles.

After that, made a deal with Catherine that I would go to the "A Divided Taiwan - Understanding the 2004 Presidential Election" panel at the International East Asian Institute in exchange for her playing the new game. Aaron also showed up at the panel. All the speakers were non-Asian, which someone actually brought up during Q&A. Some interesting stuff, a lot I already knew, but also other stuff that you don't usually hear, like how the Blue camp is not really that much different from the Green camp.

Afterwards, when coming back, saw David, but failed to convince him to join. My roommate Shen did join though. Things proceeded rather smoothly, and people understood how to play rather quickly (it's really not that hard). I eventually won with 122 points, completing both my initial tickets, getting longest continous path, and just general whoring of the points from claiming long routes. Catherine came in second with 95 points by completing 5 destination tickets. Shen came in last, with only 61 points, since he didn't complete one ticket (I screwed him over early), and thus, not only did not gain points for that, but also lost points.

Rest of the night was just homeworking and chatting.

And the following is more for the people who've been asking about my job search. Also tidied up my resume a bit for the career fair tomorrow and Wednesday. Tomorrow is more like a practice one though, since only about 20 companies. Wednesday is the important one, with 90 companies. Also a random thought about jobs... I wouldn't mind working at a game store, like Games of Berkeley, or EBGames (except the EBGame stores have recently looked really depressing. They keep the TVs off most of the time, with the gate half-open). I'd be doing something that I would enjoy (and the customer service type thing I did working at the SISS office [answering questions, helping people] was kinda nice). The only thing is... it feels like these are dead-end jobs.... especially as I think the trend is that these brick-and-mortar stores tend to slowly disappear to the online stores that can afford to sell their games at lower prices. Unless, of course, I begin there, gain experience about the industry, and then move on to another company, like Funagain Games (an online only store), or maybe to an actual publisher, like Rio Grande Games, or whatnot. Furthermore, it doesn't seem directly related to my major... except maybe trying to get into people's heads and figuring out what they're thinking.... I don't think my major confers such powerful skills. But then again, my major is supposed to confer the benefit of flexibility.

Eck, Taiwanese midterm tomorrow. Don't think I'm ready yet. >_<

Midterm, BST, Robot Stories
POSTED AT 11:36 PM in General

That midterm... was easy. I did forget what khiam-pi was, but otherwise, I think I overstudied.

So... tonight's BST event had lots of problems. The DVD player in the room did not actually work. So after awhile, Aaron and his friend went back to Unit 3 to get a laptop so we could show the 228 thing. After that, we had a big discussion. As usual, I think I had the minority view.

Afterwards, a lot of us went to eat dinner together at the DFC. Then, Jenny drove Charlie and I to the movie theater, where we waited for a late Catherine so that we could watch Robot Stories. This is another one of them Asian-American films, meaning that a lot of the actors are Asian. I didn't find it that big of a deal I guess to see Asians on screen. But that may have to do with me growing up in Asia.

Career Fair, Taiwanese Coffee Hour
POSTED AT 11:00 PM in General

Ow, too much walking today. Feet hurt.

First, the career fair. Amax looked promising, in that I think I made the best impression on them. When I said "Welcome to Berkeley", the guy responded by saying that I was the first person who'd welcomed him today (that was 1 hour into the 4 hour career fair). The only thing is, their tech support position, they want EECS majors, so I dunno if the HR person will like that. But they also had some web development position... but if I manage to get a job from them, they will also help me get the H-1B work permit and stuff. Too bad I forgot to get the guy's business card. I only have the HR's contact info (the guy was not HR). The UCs are online resumes as usual. Yahoo... bleah. They got "surfer" positions, which maybe I could use my major as an advantage (gotta categorize stuff). Except their current open position is for Canada with French skills preferred... Smith and Associates... were wondering why I wanted to do Sales... dunno. I went to them only because I had skills that they might want (multilingual). But she did say to call back in a week (since she's already full of interviews this week), if I'm still really interested. Nelson Staffing was just a headhunter company. Although temp jobs would be nice as something to do while prepping for grad school. But yeah. Tip to others. Welcome the people! A lot of the career fair tips don't mention that, but they really seem to like it.

Then at night, Fang, Catherine, Sophia, Diana, and I went to the I-House to help out at the Taiwanese Coffee Hour. Just had to mingle with the people. I tried, but I'm still not really that social. Had lots of food though.

Laws of Attraction
POSTED AT 11:40 PM in General

Yes, I saw the movie before it's released. Went to the screening show at Wheeler with Fang, Jason, and Catherine. Long wait from 6:30 till 8, then watched till 9:30. Lots of security guards there to make sure people weren't bringing in video cameras to record and upload to the web. Yes, complete with night-vision goggles. That's how paranoid the movie industry is. The movie itself was.... like any other romantic comedy. The movie felt quite a bit longer than the actual 1.5 hours though. Probably because a lot of things happened in the movie in that period of time. Guess that's a good thing?

Love Test
POSTED AT 12:32 PM in General

From Karen's blog.

http://www.naucon.net/misc/tests/love_test01.htm. Curious on what they've chosen the animals to symbolize.

1. You are attracted to those who are warm and obedience.

2. In the process of courtship, the approach that would make you
feel irresistable is creative, never let you feel bored.

3. The impression you would like to give to your lover is stylish.

4. You don't like it when your partner is emotional and/or too
moody; and you don't know how to please him/her.

5. The kind of relationship you would like to build with your
partner is one that you care not only about the present but
also the future with your partner, a long-lasting relationship
that you can grow with.

6. You care about the society and morality, you won't do anything
wrong after marriage.

7. You think of marriage as a precious thing. Once you get married,
you'll treasure it and your partner very much.

8. At this moment, you think of love as a committment for both parties.

CSA Culture Show
POSTED AT 12:03 AM in General

Plans for Kill Bill 2 fell through, so instead, went to CSA's Culture Show.

First ate with Catherine at Eat-A-Pita. Rather interesting food... then we went to line up... rather short line, so we got good seats. The show felt... a little too long. The "culture" seemed to be rather stereotypical Asian. Butterfly Lovers was definitely long. Monkey King was a little too silly. Matrix Ping-Pong was a clone of the original Japanese, but they did imitate it rather well. The Cal Wushu.... after looking at them, I guess Stanfurd's weren't that bad.

A more relaxing day
POSTED AT 01:02 AM in General

http://www.kiteretsu.jp/on/tontie/ - fun smacking game.

Got up early to give Fang her Albertson's card back, then we went to Albertson and then to Safeway for grocery shopping. Later, convinced Catherine to come over to play board games. Played Ticket to Ride again. My roommates also joined in. Final scores were me 130, Chester 98, and Catherine and Shen both tied at 81. I tried my trick again, keeping two cards with similar destinations, (34 points), got longest route (42 continuous), and 86 points from the routes. Catherine tried her get a lot of routes trick, Chester lost points from routes (only 5), but also got more destination tickets. Shen didn't lose points this time.

Then showed Catherine some random clips I have on my computer, watched 8 minutes of Spirited Away, then went to her place to finish the rest of it while we ate our respective leftovers (hers from yesterday, mine from today). Then she showed me some Strongbad emails and I showed her 8legged.com and newgrounds.com. Then her roommates wanted her to go partying so I left.

Yeah.

Stupid heat
POSTED AT 11:59 PM in General

I hate this heat. Man, I want air-conditioning. Or at least some sort of good breeze. Bah.

Got some tickets today. Did some errands. Some snag in the YMCA reservations, bought Fluxx for Peter's birthday and San Juan for myself. We (Peter, David, Michelle, and I), ate at Mel's for dinner. Karen was supposed to show up, but didn't come till 2 minutes after we'd left.

Played a game of San Juan with David and Michelle. I got 36, they got 31 points.

Finished my presentation for Taiwanese.

Unhappy that people who were supposed to do activities for Senior Week didn't get ticket books early enough, so now can't go. Sucky.

San Juan
POSTED AT 11:11 PM in Gaming

Played with my roommates today. First game, I didn't get my guild hall. Chester won with 40, Shen had 38, and I had 30. Next game, I got my guild hall, and a palace. Won with 40 points, Chester had 28, and Shen had a measly 24. First game took 45 minutes, second game only 30. I like quick games.

Ben & Jerry's ice cream
POSTED AT 11:57 PM in General

Ooh, really sleepy...

So today was free ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. Catherine went by herself earlier. Sophia and Diana came to the bus stop from boba and crispy chicken, and I came from class. Jenny arrived soon after. Kaisen got ditched by everyone for the 8pm boba.

YMCA problem is solved. Apparently, one of those reservations was actually mine...

Oof, too many early finals = the suck.

Senior Week events
POSTED AT 11:55 PM in General

Free ice cream around noon. Went with Karen. Got my ticket book, $29. Then went to the Luau in the evening. Managed to get seconds! But didn't get ice cream. The dances were interesting. Michelle and Hung-Tzu also showed up, as well as Bonar and Doreen. $15 value there.

Boat dance tomorrow...

You know what really sucks? For this week, none of the people I've been hanging out with a lot this semester (BST peeps) are going to the events, and instead, they're going off and doing their own activities. Feel... segregated somehow. And of the people who are going... they've become more distant... looks like I'm fluttering around the fringes of social circles again. Belonging, but not quite belonging.

Senior Boat Dance
POSTED AT 11:14 PM in General

For this, I had to skip a couple classes. Took me about 40 minutes to prepare. Half of it was spent re-doing my tie over and over again 'cause it just wouldn't look right. Quite a few people that I knew did end up showing up. Almost all Christians. The food.... was bleah. Not being buffet style really made it suck, since we could only get one helping for the longest time. Finally, after much standing around, they opened it up for grabs, but they ran out of plates for awhile, so I just used the paper towels as a plate. Eventually, I went downstairs again and saw the people dancing, or trying to... the DJ was not only late, but had broken equipment, so the speakers didn't really work = not very audible music. Just the bass really... and of the people who did dance, supposedly there was too little room to really dance. And someone said that the DJ was told to only bring rap and hip-hop for the music selection... uh, yeah. Definitely crappy music. And I don't care if you like rap or hip-hop.

People were surprised that I actually wore a suit, and they were *really* fascinated at my tie... it was my green tie, and I was wearing a blue shirt with a dark suit... if that helps you imagine it. They were surprised that I didn't have a dimple on my tie (there *should* be one... I guess I missed that part while Googling, although, some results say no dimple is better... *shrug*), and also that I'd looked up how to tie the tie on Google just before, and that I even know it's called the Windsor Knot.

So went out at 4:15 or so and got back at 11:45. Boat probably didn't leave the dock till around 7PM and returned at 10PM.

Sam Ou wins the award for most underdressed. He had a dress shirt, a jacket, and JEANS! Doh!
