Well, I did win that pizza night contest. The prize? A refund.

Eep, 1 week till project due!

Whoops
POSTED AT 01:44 AM in General

Left my homework at home, but quickly finished while the professor was going over the old homework, then turned it in at the end of class. Hope he doesn't penalize me (although if he did, it would be like 10% of 4% or something, so only 0.4% off)

The rain really really really sucks.

Power outage
POSTED AT 01:31 AM in General

Oi, power outage! At first I thought, ah what the heck, not a big deal. Then while talking to people milling in the lobby, they mentioned that the internet would probably be down again for the entire weekend. So I kinda freaked, because my projects are due next week, and it'll be an immense pain getting to campus to the labs over teh weekend since I still prefer typing up my projects on my computer (more comfortable with my own set interfaces).

And also because I needed to contact Xia tomorrow, and online was the only way to do it, and I didn't fancy having to go all the way to campus early in the morning just to contact her and then walk back.

I was considering emailing my boss tomorrow because technically we're in the same department so he might be able to contact someone who'd be able to fix the internet.

Then the power came back and amazingly the internet wasn't down.

Maybe my complaints earlier in the semester when this happened helped.

Oh, and the weather was really nice today. Well, it was sunny, but it was still chilly.

Xia's birthday
POSTED AT 02:03 AM in General

So got up in the morning to go celebrate her birthday at a place with dim sum called "Happy Garden." Pretty good food, although was slightly expensive. Then I bought her a small tiramisu at a bakery nearby, which was a compromise since she's not used to the friends paying for birthdays tradition that I picked up at Berkeley.

Then we sort of shopped around a bit before going back to work on our projects, of which I'm happy that I'm allowed to use this thing called JavaMail which saved me a lot of time on implementing attachments.

Oh, and good weather. After the rain last week, Friday and Saturday were nice and sunny (but still cold).

And more project-ing.

Things are never as easy as you expect. >_<

Oh, and the power went out again tonight briefly. Still annoying.

Almost done
POSTED AT 03:15 AM in General

Guess I didn't update yesterday.

So these past two days have just been long pushes into the night to finish my project. It actually looks and feels a lot more functional now. Today was more of the design stuff to make it look good, and it's mostly bug cleanups now. Previously, the problems were more of not knowing what to do, so it's actually easier in this part, but cleaning up all the shortcuts and quick debugging info I used is a pain.

Tomorrow will be cleaning up the debugging code and writing the report.

Hope I don't break something tomorrow while cleaning up the code by accidentally deleting something.

Also in the past two days while working on the project, I've been constantly having these images of people with various excited/passionate expressions. Is it simply just something to make my myself less bored, or am I just going crazy?

DONE!
POSTED AT 01:04 AM in General

Heh, I think I may have implemented some of the basic stuff wrong. Well, it wasn't exactly specified, but a lot of people did it a certain way that I didn't do, but the professor didn't actually ask to check that, but focused on the more important stuff, so it was fine. He finished mine really quickly though, so I dunno if that's a good or bad sign. He finished fast on the first release as well, so maybe I'm just good at being concise on what my project's capable of?

I ended up not eating all day until dinner. Woke up early, didn't have time for breakfast because I slept in a bit later because I slept late last night, but I have to go to work. Whil there, I just kept doing my project, and stayed there after my shift ended, until I had to leave because a class was starting, so I went straight to the CS labs and kept working there until it was due. So no time to eat.

Ate at a Pho place with Xia on Clement between 4th and 3rd avenue. She ate there with Cindy for lunch last Friday, but I didn't go then because I had already eaten lunch that day. Nice big bowl of soup with beef that was still red when it came, but was cooked by the time you got around to eating it.

Then I took a 3 hour nap and will be sleeping soon.

So one more not-as-important project due on Friday, then it's finals, then I'm done!

Missed blogging
POSTED AT 09:52 AM in General

Blah, missing my daily blogging is starting to become a normal thing.

So what happened yesterday? Mmm, picked up my paycheck, and worked on my other project, which thanks to the badly worded specifications, was a pain to figure out. 14 hours left!

Totally done! Yay!
POSTED AT 02:15 AM in General

So I know I made a few errors on the final, and I think I my project data was a bit screwy. But I think my overall grade should still be fine because I've been doing pretty well most of the semester.

Whose Line Is It Anyway

Man, I love this show. Haven't watched it in a while, started watching a few episodes again recently, giggle and chuckle a lot. More than I do watching other stuff at least.

blah, work
POSTED AT 12:48 AM in General

*sigh* The sucky thing right now is that even though I'm done with classes, I *still* can't sleep in because I have to go to work in the morning. Well, at least I'm getting some money and I can basically surf the web since the classrooms have exams going on so I can't exactly go in and do stuff...

Free time!
POSTED AT 01:25 AM in General

Yay, an A! I should start packing, since I need to bring the stuff I'm going to bring home to my aunt's place first.

Finished another Dan Brown book. I think he's fascinated with death.

The paperback version of the book I really want to read, A Feast For Crows, won't be available till the summer.

Been playing around with more video stuff lately.

More Touhou replay videos
POSTED AT 11:35 PM in General, Gaming, Touhou 東方

Packed, and almost ready to just leave tomorrow.

Also copied over my finished class projects in case they wipe my account before next semester.

Also burned a bunch of my Touhou stuff onto a DVD to carry with me to my aunt's place and then back home. Should last me the winter break.

And that leads to the title of this entry.

So after looking around several places, I decided to settle on http://www.dailymotion.com to host my videos. That's in addition to Google Video. The quality for Daily Motion is a tad higher, but it seems to be less smooth, probably because they reduced the frame rate.

But what I really like about them is that they have a Quicktime alternative if Flash is not installed, and best of all, they have a vogroll, which is at the end of the entry. All you need to do is hover your mouse over it and it'll load the clip and play it. It gives you a general idea of what the pattern is like, and you can click on it if you want to see a bigger version. I'll probably be adding this to my site.

As for the videos, I changed my 208 clear video because it had my real name in it rather than my online name, and I added Tewi and Sakuya's Last Words.

I also created an About Touhou content page for people to quickly learn more about the Touhou series.

Oh, this may or may not be my last update for about a week, depending on how often I get access to a computer at my aunt's place.

Of all days for it to rain, it rains the day I have to move.

Google's taking their sweet time approving my new videos...

I'm getting quite a few hits from them because of my Touhou replay videos though.

POSTED AT 07:13 PM in General

And the rain continues...

My cousin snored so loudly last night I just went out and slept on the couch.

Looked at my flight schedule. I arrive late both ways, which means I probably want to take a shuttle home when I come back.

Reunion
POSTED AT 11:45 PM in General

Time on the internet is slow...

Yeah, I'm waiting for a few things to update on the internet that just aren't updating and it's annoying me.

Went out with David C tonight to Berkeley to pick up his sister, then we went to Krispy Kreme and then to In'n'Out. Tried to play some Touhou music through the earphones, which worked a little bit, but was only good for playing "Guess the song" with David.

Thanks to my lack of money, we got free food from David. And I got a box of Pocky as well as a Christmas present. Thanks David! :D

I hate airport officials
POSTED AT 12:27 AM in General

Ok, got my fellowship money, so the only thing left is the grade for that one class.

I fly tomorrow... hope I don't have any problems. I always worry that I'll forget something and then be denied entry to wherever I'm flying... and I've done this more than a dozen or so times now.

Blogging from airport
POSTED AT 03:11 PM in General

Hmm, writing from the Eva lounge at SFO. Apparently they do have internet access here too, just hidden away and not advertised.

So I've already made a few mistakes today. First, I left my battery charger in the room, then I absentmindedly put in only $4.70 for my ticket (the usual fare from Fremont to SF), so I had to add extra fare at the destination. Finally, I realized I'd mixed up my departure time with my arrival time at the end points of the trip. So I'm actually arriving at 2AM and will be coming back to SF in the day time, so BART+bus is actually an option.

Well, my card gave me a small benefit since it let me use the Evergreen Deluxe line even though I have an Economy ticket, although I ended up being ushered over to the First Class line because there was nobody there. Saved me maybe 5 minutes I guess.

Time to stock up on drinks from the lounge for the flight...

The flight and first day back
POSTED AT 06:53 AM in General

So, I'm finally back.

From San Francisco to Taipei, the flight was crowded, and it was really uncomfortable so I couldn't sleep. I ended up actually watching all the in-flight movies, the first three with sound, and the last two I just read the subtitles.

The flight from Taipei to Bangkok was half empty, which was nice, as I could put stuff in the seat next to me and stretch out my legs better. By this time, I had already had too much to eat, so I didn't finish all the food. That's the bad thing about being able to go into the lounges, instead of three meals, it's like five meals.

My parents actually hadn't arrived yet when I got through customs, and this lady kept asking me if I wanted a taxi. So I took a potty break in the disgusting restroom first and my parents had arrived when I came out.

Slept around 3AM and got up at 8AM, which meant I had only about 6 hours of sleep including the time on the plane.

Went to mass, where someone got baptized, and then we went to have the Christmas lunch with the rest of the family. Then to my grandmother's place for gift-giving, and after some conversation/TV, we went home.

Meanwhile, the neighbors took one of the cats + her kittens away, probably to a temple, which he'd said he was going to do in the morning before we left. Apparently, they'd designated his place to be their litterbox, so it was really annoying him. There goes half my fun for the break. =/

Watched The Island. And I think I'll probably crash and sleep for a long time, as I'm actually sleepy now.

2nd day back
POSTED AT 08:01 AM in General

Hmm... mom's upset about the kittens being taken away. The neighbor who stole Christmas?

Lots of sneezing now. Stupid cat allergies. Well, the cat's not so scared of me now. She actually came out of hiding yesterday. The only cat that seems to like the catnip I brought back is the male cat outside the house.

Installed RAM from my old computer, but couldn't add the video card because the motherboard's missing an AGP slot...

I wished it was cooler here...

More on the kittens
POSTED AT 07:01 AM in General

Yay, rain.

Dad brought one of the kittens back. Seems like it was being taken care of pretty well though, since they gave it a bath and kept it in the house. Unfortunately, the mother no longer recognizes the kitten, and no one knows what happened to the other kitten.

Hate my allergies.

Appointments + kitten
POSTED AT 12:08 AM in General

Let's see... couldn't post last night, but this should've been posted around midnight or so.

---------

Dentist appointment today, need to go again on Friday because two teeths are beginning to develop cavities so they need to be filled in to prevent it from progressing.

Then to my grandmother's for lunch.

Then went to get my eyes checked, but they're fine. Which means it's been two years that my eyesight has remained stable, which is good. Just needed my glasses tightened a bit.

We let the kitten into the house today. He's definitely a lot more fun than our house cat. What's more, our house cat was actually afraid of him, and he's just a kitten. That cat must have some psychological disorder. The kitten actually recognized what the kitty litter was for and used it too. But we let the kitten back out, partly because we don't know if we want him in the house in the long-term, and also because the other cat doesn't like him.

Started watching Numbers as well.

2nd dentist appointment
POSTED AT 08:51 AM in General

Mmm..... went to the place my mom teaches, and then we went to have lunch at Oishi. Then it was to the dentist. Got the two teeth filled, but there's still two more teeth on the other side that are "at risk" because of their shape.

My parents gave the kitten away in the morning, but when we came back, the kitten was back in front of our house. I guess he's used to our place now. The house cat continues to hide from him... stupid cat. The kitten sleeps a lot.

That said, my allergies don't seem to be as bad as it used to be. Every once in a while, I'll sneeze 20 times in a row (first sneeze makes my nose itch, and if I blow my nose, it itches even more, so it's a rather vicious cycle), but other than that, I'm usually fine.

I believe tomorrow is to my grandmother's place for New Year's Eve, while watching the annual Red White Singing Competition on NHK.
