Some more updates
POSTED AT 03:17 AM in General

Oh right, my blog.

Was spared from having to do my HCI presentation next Wednesday. Instead it will be next next Monday, which helps A LOT.

Pizza Night today. So few of the Chinese students came. Well, not that many people came at all actually.

Almost over
POSTED AT 03:12 AM in General

Hmm, Saturday went off to school to work on project integration, Papanii treated me to lunch. Sunday, Xia's birthday, happy birthday! Only about 1 more week...

So my mom translated this entry of mine into Chinese and submitted it and it got published in a newspaper. :D

Fang's visit!
POSTED AT 12:38 AM in General

Yay! Fang is here for a couple days, and today is her free day!

So after my classes, I managed to skip my TA class and accompanied Xia for her dinner, then walked to Japantown where I saw Sophia in the bookstore. They didn't have the new manga I wanted unfortunately.

Store closed at 8 so we went to wait outside the restaurant. Jenny showed up soon after and gave us brownie presents (thank you Jenny!). Then a little past 8:20 Fang, David, and Catherine showed up.

Dinner was good at Iroha, and then we went to karaoke at Do Re Mi.

Haven't had such a good karaoke experience in years! First off, since Fang was there, I actually had someone else who could sing Japanese songs with me for most of the songs. Also, they actually had a very good selection of new anime songs, including Suzumiya Haruhi and even some KOTOKO songs! Also some of the old classics that I have not been able to find anywhere. And Bleach songs. So yeah, all round goodness even though their system is not really as good as the other places.

The selection in other languages aren't as good though, which means less likely people will want to go back there. 1.5 hours for 6 people was $7/person which was reasonable.

Fang also gave us some chocolate candy presents (thank you Fang!).

:D

Marisa Stole the Precious Thing

Odd, I'm surprised I forgot to post this. Aside from being a catchy Touhou remix, I like the sound of the voice and the Chinese being mixed in there.

Lockpicking/burglary skill +1
POSTED AT 12:11 PM in General

Hmm, I was just in an unfortunate situation where I somehow locked myself out in the backyard. Or at least, the door refused to budge. Luckily one of the windows downstairs was open or I would've been kinda stuck.

However, I then found that the door to my room was locked as well. Thankfully my door is not a normal lock but instead uses a hinge type mechanism to lock, so I was able to find some kitchen tool to force the hinge up and away.

If I had really remained stuck today, it would've been really bad given the number of things I have due today.

DONE DONE DONE! + ALI PROJECT
POSTED AT 11:13 PM in General

Yay! Things didn't go too badly I guess is one way to put it.

Of course, you know what they say about no rest for the wicked.

So yeah, it's buying all the stuff I'm supposed to buy and packing before I have to leave for my flight tomorrow night.

BTW, I've been listening to a bit of ALI PROJECT music recently. Their music is interesting because it's so discordant and minor key sounding. Gothic Lolita music? Well, they've done music for Noir, Rozen Maiden, .hack (ick) and recently, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, which is what got me listening to their music again.

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be an ending video on Youtube, so I'll settle with the actual music video.

I think I like this song better though.

This one fits very well with the video though.

So, I'm in Thailand now. Yeah.

Cat took one day to show her face, but still hides somewhere most of the day.

Slow crappy censored proxied Internet. I can't even post on Slashdot. =/

Why can't Thailand learn from the other Asian countries around here?

16 kyu
POSTED AT 05:02 AM in General

So that's my current rank on the Kiseido Go Server (it's very weak). After 4 games, 2 wins and 2 losses vs. bots. Still can't really see big pictures yet and still make stupid moves during close combat and get a bunch of my stones captured. Let's see where I end up by the time I go back.

Lowest rank is 30k, but most people I think start at around 20k in reality. Once you get to 1k, it moves to the Dan levels, which goes up to I think around 7-8 for amateurs.

I've always sucked at chess-like games, especially against the computer. Never had much patience for them. I do a little better with in-person games though.

Christmas Heat
POSTED AT 02:47 AM in General

My cat's in heat again. Only time she doesn't ignore me. Figures.

So Merry Christmas! It's that time of year when conservative Christians in America complain about the so-called "War on Christmas" because stores prefer respecting all faiths by saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." Meanwhile, we have places like Japan where Christmas is pretty much just another Valentine or Halloween-like festivity to have fun. Would those Christians really prefer such meaningless celebration instead?

Quake = Internet problems

So earthquake in Taiwan has crippled Asia's Internet. It's slowly getting better but it still pretty much sucks.

Happy New Year!
POSTED AT 08:57 AM in General

It sure ended with a bang. And I'm not talking about fireworks. Instead, many bombs went off here in Bangkok.

Watched the Kouhaku Uta Gassen like previous years. They finally broke the Red-White alternating wins with the White team winning again this year. Found a few songs that I liked.

DZ Ozma pulled an interesting stunt with some dancers wearing flesh-colored tights with "nipples" and ending with them taking off their panties with some weird duck/elephant head thing behind it.
