What the world needs...
POSTED AT 10:31 PM in General

The world needs more of the girl on the left, and less on the right.

Happy Evolution Sunday!
POSTED AT 03:54 AM in General, Philosophy

In case you have no idea what that is, go here.

So because of that, I'm gonna put some stuff related to it.

First up, Ken Miller's talk on Intelligent Design. Yes, it's 2 hours long, but it is VERY good. Watch it, especially if you're a Creationist.

("Spoilers on what happened in Ohio later that year")

Not long after that, he also appeared on The Colbert Report on Comedy Central.

The videos really made me respect the guy. He's funny, calm, sticks to presenting the evidence, and is also... humble. He never attacks the opponent, something I really need to learn in my online arguments (I can't resist ridiculing and being sarcastic)

I'll probably be checking out his book, Finding Darwin's God sometime later from the library.

Singles Awareness Day
POSTED AT 10:49 PM in General

Happy SAD! If you don't know what it is, read more about Singles Awareness Day on Wikipedia.

Yeah, I maintain that entry quite a bit, among other things.

If you are still celebrating VDay, you really should consider switching to SAD. VDay is pretty nasty if you think about it. If you're single (especially if you're trying not to be), you're just bombarded of how you are utterly alone and a failure. If you're in a relationship, besides contributing to the former's plight, you yourself are also burdened with an abnormal amount of pressure and expectations. Which is why VDay is also the day when the most number of breakups occur.

I mean, what other day that's celebrated causes so many people to feel like crap?

(And yeah, I know it's not quite the 14th yet here, but it's already the 14th in Asia)

Pseudo-video chat system
POSTED AT 01:54 AM in General

http://www.nicovideo.jp

I'm surprised nobody thought of this earlier. Also, damn, why didn't I think of that?

Basically, submit a video url from YouTube or Amebavision. You'll then get your own little page where people can then submit comments at any point in the video. This will show up on the right including the time in the video when the comment was made. This will then show up when other people watch the video. You can even format the text a little like position, color, etc.

And of course, if the text is distracting, you can always go to the original source or turn comments off.

This results in something like this: (it's 2 music videos merged together). Most of the comments are people repeating the lyrics.

For something less crazy, try this:

The comments are pretty funny if you can read it. Like when it was showing Cid, someone said "Cid is my bride" and then they comment on the music, or during special scenes like the summons they get all excited.

Lunar New Year
POSTED AT 11:23 PM in General

Too much food?

Buffet with the Chinese Student Association for lunch, then off to my relatives' place for dinner. Then came back in the afternoon today.

Oh yeah, we watched some Chinese New Year programming on CCTV (so mainland China). One thing we noticed was how all the women were dressed normally, but all the little elementary school girls were in all sorts of miniskirts.

Wonder what that's saying about China...

Ash Wednesday
POSTED AT 09:28 PM in General

Maybe it's a sign, or maybe it's just the human brain's remarkable ability for pattern-searching, but someone actually came to me some time after midnight with some religious questions that bordered on being apologetics.
